The Pompton Lakes Board of Education is comprised of ten (10) members. Nine of the members are elected to a three year term by the citizens of Pompton Lakes and one member, who is a board member in Riverdale Borough, is appointed by that governing body to the Pompton Lakes Board. The Pompton Lakes School Board develops and implements policies regarding the education of the children of The Pompton Lakes Public Schools with input from the Superintendent of Schools and the Board Secretary.

All Board of Education members are responsible for functioning in an ethical manner and, therefore, are governed by laws enacted by the State Legislature and the Ethics Commission. The individual board members possess the authority to function as a board member only during scheduled board meetings.
